Hydrostatic stress as Fracture/Damage criterion?

Submitted by priyadd84 on

Hi all,

Can Hydrostatic stress be used as a fracture criteria? If so can critical hydrostatic stress be found experimentally? Thanks.

Hi,

Hydrostatic stress is one of the factor that is responsible for the  growth of a void in a ductile material which follows the void growth nucleation type of fracture. There are some other factors on which the damage of a material depends like loading history etc. I dont know things related to the experimental measurement.
