discrimination of men
Seems to me as a discrimination of men !!!!
I have never seen workshop just for men!!!
It's a great initiative indeed by Prof. M Buehler and MIT CEE !
I think it's a great initiative by Prof. Buehler. Number of women in fields like CEE/Mechanical Sciences is much less as compared to men. Fields like Medical Sciences/Fashion Design attract more female. Number of male members in iMechanica is far more than female members.
With this kind of workshop, female scientists will get more encouragement to enter in these fields. I want to thank Prof. M Buehler and his team for taking this pioneering step.
I answer just be definition
I answer just be definition of discrimination from Cambridge English Dictionary
treating a person or particular group of people differently, because of their skin colour, sex, sexuality, etc.
So clearly, this initiative is discrimination, even if you think it is a great initiative. You are right that the field does not attract women, but attracting them by discriminating other group is not the right way.
For a more complete discusion
For a more complete discusion, you might also want to include (from the same dictionary) the definition of positive or reverse discrimination: the act of giving advantage to those groups in society that are often treated unfairly, usually because of their race, sex, or sexuality.
