Postdoctoral Fellow Position available at CSIRO, Melbourne, Australia

The Division seeks to employ a Post Doctoral Fellow within the Hydraulic Fracturing research team. The Post Doctoral Fellow will be required to work on a project to develop a new capability in the interpretation of remote sensing data for the purpose of hydraulic fracturing monitoring.

Specifically you will:

  • Develop a method for detection of non-symmetric growth of multiple hydraulic fractures based on interpretation of remote sensing data
  • Collaborate with industry partners in the deployment of new technology and securing ongoing research funds
  • Participate in laboratory and field experiments
  • Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports.

You will be mentored by senior scientists as part of CSIRO’s Postdoctoral Fellows Program which aims to train early career scientists for a research role. You will be expected to communicate the outcomes of your research through presentation of results at national and international conferences and publications in relevant scientific journals.

Salary:  $78K - $85K per annum plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will have:

  • A PhD, or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD degree, in Engineering, Applied Math, Physics or related disciplines with a strong background in solid and/or fluid mechanics
  • Familiarity and experience with inverse modelling.
  • Demonstrated mathematical proficiency.
  • Demonstrated originality, creativity and innovation in solving problems and introducing new directions and approaches.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of people from varying research backgrounds and evidence of strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to publish the results of scientific research in scientific journals.
