2022 Journal of Applied Mechanics Award - Kedar Kirane, Shelly Zhang, Ankit Srivastava

The AMD-ASME Executive Committee is pleased to announce and congratulate

Dr. Kedar Kirane, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Stony Brook University;

Dr. Shelly Zhang, Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Mechanical and Science Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign;  and

Dr. Ankit Srivastava, Associate Professor, Materials Science and Engineering, Texas A&M University

as the 2022 recipients of the Journal of Applied Mechanics Award. This award includes a certificate and an honorarium.

The Journal of Applied Mechanics Award is provided by the Applied Mechanics Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers to honor the best paper which has been published in the Journal of Applied Mechanics during the two calendar years immediately preceding the year of the award. The award is presented to the corresponding author of the paper who received his or her Ph.D. no more than 10 years prior to July 1 of the award year.

Prof. Kirane is being recognized for his paper “Fracture and energetic strength scaling of soft, brittle and weakly nonlinear elastomers”, Journal of Applied Mechanics 87, 041009 (2020);

Prof. Zhang is being recognized for her paper “Topology Optimization with Many Right Hand Sides Using A Mirror Descent Stochastic Approximation - Reduction from Many to A Single Sample”, Journal of Applied Mechanics 87, 051005 (2020)

Prof. Srivastava is being recognized for his paper “Dynamics of necking and fracture in ductile porous materials”, Journal of Applied Mechanics 87, 041005 (2020).
