Carbon Nanotube in Ansys
Thu, 2008-11-27 12:41 - W. Akram
dear all,
I want to do a research on carbon nano tube(CNT) using Ansys. I need to model CNT with matrice. How can I analyse this in Ansys? Is it possible in Ansys? Could you give any guide or reference for this ?

dear all
since I am doing a same sort of research , I will highly appreciate it if you could give any points over it to me , thanks
CNT Modelling in ANSYS
Dear all,
Generally ansys is used to model CNT as a cage-like strecture using molecular stastics techniques. In this analysis , carbon atoms are considered as nodes and carbon-carbon bond is considered as an element ( Usually link, beam or frame elements are used). The element properties can be approximated from the standard potentials available.
If you want to analyze, CNT Composites, it is better to go for Multi Scale Models.

The following three papers demonstrate how to use FEM simulate carbon nanotues. Hope it help.

Modelling of carbon nano tube(cnt) with matrix in ANSYS APDL
Dear all,
I am doing research on 'failure analysis of CNT based composite
using FEA'. I have modelled cnt in ansys with manual meshing but it is
terminating the solution giving error as "One or more elements
have become highly distorted. Excessive distortion of elements is
usually a symptom indicating the need for corrective action elsewhere.
Try incrementing the load more slowly (increase the number of substeps
or decrease the time step size). You may need to improve your mesh to
obtain elements with better aspect ratios. Also consider the behavior
of materials, contact pairs, and/or constraint equations. If this
message appears in the first iteration of first substep, be sure to
perform element shape checking"
Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem
