Post-Doc position in Computational Mechanics Institute of Structural Mechanics, Bauhaus Uni. Weimar

pattabhib's picture

We are
looking for a Postdoctoral fellow to strengthen our
Research Training Group 1462 Model Qualities that
consists of 12 PhD students. This is a fixed-term position for a
period of one year. A renewal for a further year is possible.

Description

Generally,
deterministic basic conditions are assumed during the modelling of
mechanical systems and processes in the academic and also practical
research environment
. Model input parameters, such as
material parameters, geometry or load description, as well as model
responses, e.g. intensity of stress or displacement components, and
also the link between input and response parameters exist as clearly
defined sizes and connections. A realistic reliable modelling
requires however, the consideration of influences of uncertain input
parameters, for example due to fabrication tolerances, inhomogeneity
of material, uncertainties in the assumed load, different levels of
abstraction in the simulation model and additional inaccuracy during
the measurement of model input parameters.

The
influences of uncertain input parameters with respect to the
prognosis quality of numerical models should be analyzed. From this
project definition the main questions that arise are: 1. On the basis
of which sizes is it possible to evaluate the influence of the
uncertainties in the simulation models? 2.  Which methods can be
used to model uncertainties and how can this be quantified with the
help of experimental research? 3. Which influence does the
abstraction level of the modelling of uncertainties have on the
desired quality of evidence?

The
presented questions should continue the research works in process at
the Research Training Group in the area of uncertainty analysis,
sensitivity and robustness assessment, to demonstrate new methods of
probabilistic assessment of numerical models. Within this subject
matter, the candidate is expected to actively assist PHD students at
the Research Training Group through courses as well as supervision of
individual PHD projects.

Requirements

The
announcement is directed towards engineers and scientists with a
completed graduation and corresponding experience in the field of
probabilistic modelling and analysis as well as in the area of
numerical simulation procedures, in particular stochastic finite
element analysis.

Salary

The
salary is regulated according to the terms and conditions of the
collective labour agreement of the public service of the
states corresponding to the personal requirements up to tariff
part 13 TV-L (“öffentlichen Dienst der
Länder”–TV-L, http://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/tv-l/west/). The
gross salary will be around 55,000 Euro/year.

Application
deadline:
As soon as possible
