modelling of rectangular composite plates using ANSYS

Submitted by sharma_avadesh on

I have to analyse the carbon/epoxy composite laminate in ANSYS,  to determine the natural frequency of rectangular composite plates. The plate is simply supported . I  am not able to model the composite lay up with the correct orientation of the fibre. so any body have the step by step procedure for modelling the composite lay up in ANSYS and how to determine natural frequencies  please give it to me on my e-mail:  sharma_avadesh [at] yahoo.com

Two-point Tensors

Submitted by Mubeen on

I am confused about the use of two-point tensors in elasticity. The deformation tensor F and first PK tensor are two point tensors, and the "two-point" property arises from use of two different Coordinate System When a continuum body is deformed, why it is necessary to move the Coordinate System as well? (or alternatively, why the coordinate system is attached to the body itself??, isn't it possible to use a general coordinate system which can represent the deformations and also account for the rigid body rotations of the continuum body?).

free vibration mode shapes of beam (other than pinned-pinned) and finite strip method

Hi everyone.

I'm working on my master thesis, dynamic analysis of plates using finite strip method.

I have found one problem (among others) that could be interesting to community.

In the attachment you can find example from Mathematica. There is 21 mode shapes of clamped-clamped beam. Recently i noticed that formulation given in every book about dynamics (Timoshenko, for example) isn't valid for higher modes for any beam that isn't pinned on both ends.

Effect of surface hardness in tensile testing

Submitted by GOPALAERO2000 on

Hi Everyone,

Is is possible to account the surface hardness effect in the tensile testing specimen? If possible, how could it be acomplished?

For instance, I would like to establish the  stress strain curve for the material that used on surface hardened component. Will there be a big change if the surface hardness effect is considered on the tensile specimen?

Please throw some light in this regard.

Thanks

ENTROPY

I want to what exactly entropy means???I know the definition and formula but still not getting the physical significance. When we say temperature we can understand and feel it.But,in case of entropy each time I read about it I don't get it.Can anybody explore it's significance in easy way so that i can understand what exactly entropy means?

Lectures on Soft Active Materials, 2nd edition

Submitted by Zhigang Suo on

In May 2008, I posted 3 lectures on Soft Active Materials given at UCSB.  I have since given similar lectures on other occasions, but never all three at the same place.  The field has been active.  The lectures have been updated with new items.  I’m now posting the “2nd edition” of these lectures.

  • Dielectric elastomers
  • Neutral gels
  • Polyelectrolyte gels
  • pH-sensitive gels

The slides are posted as delivered.  No effort is made to eliminate repeating slides.

Modeling of viscoelastic material in ANSYS

Submitted by Rabindra K. Patel on

Any one can tell about the modelling of viscoelastic materials in ANSYS. In the modeeling how material properties can be given. Like I have material data in the form of Prony series parameter. If sone is having relaxation data how can that be fed to ANSYS model?
