analysis of RC cooling tower

Submitted by reza1001 on

Hi.

The topic of my thesis is about analysis of RC cooling tower under earthquake loading. The way of this analysis is FEM & for this analysis, I'm doing with "Abaqus" software.

I ask that this software can analysis this structures?

 and

for modelling of the rebars of X-legs in this structure, what can I do?

Thanks.

Circular membrane tension calculation

Hi, I am a new PhD student working on the vibration behavior of a thin polymer film. Specifically the film is an elastomer VHB 4910. The question that I have specifically is that initially the film is 500 microns thick. Upon the application of prestress, the film is stretched (clamped) and the film thickness decreases to 20 microns. Assuming that the thickness is uniform, how can I calculate the tension in the membrane?

Thanks for any suggestions that you can provide, and happy new year!

Wei Yang talks about research ethics in China on Nature

Submitted by Jianliang Xiao on

Yang Wei wants to reform attitudes towards research ethics at Zhejiang University and across the country.

Yang Wei has an easy smile and a carefree, even distracted, air — but he takes such a solemn approach to life that his wife sometimes tells him to relax. “I take everything seriously,” he says.

Incomplete thoughts on mass flux and superposed RBM

Submitted by Amit Acharya on

Attached are some (hand-written) observations on wanting to do continuum mechanics when mass is not conserved for fixed sets of particles of the body (so, situations transcending the rocket-losing-mass type). I feel (un)comfortable with these observations, depending upon the day I think about such things.

Strain Rate Calculation in CEL

Submitted by sujan on

Hi!

I am trying to calculate the strain rate in Coupled Eulerian Analysis Using ABAQUS. I want to Calculate it through Plastic strain as strain rate in vuhard is not working properly. I want to fix the strain in state variable for a time period but with analysis, it is updated automatically. Is there any options to keep strain fixed for a time period?

Any idea will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A variational approach to predict percolation thresholds of nanomaterials

Submitted by Frankxu on

Study on the properties of inhomogeneous media plays a central role throughout the history of physics, e.g.

Possion’s theory on magnetism of composites, Faraday’s dielectric model of composites, Maxwell’s and later

Rayleigh’s work on conductivity of composites, and Einstein’s thesis on viscosity of fluid-particle media. As

a special branch of this field, percolation research on phase transition and critical phenomena was originated

with lattice percolation theories in 1950s [1]. The idealization of a lattice structure is convenient for analytical
