how element quality will affect the accuracy of results

Submitted by sagar_009 on

hi all,

I want to know how the element quality is decided.

For example: for warpage of elment if allowable limit is max 15deg, what will happen if it exceeds 30 deg.

On what basis this limit is calculated.

Like this for the other quality parameters also.

plz help

Good substitute for cowper-symonds in Abaqus

Submitted by priyadd84 on
Hi all,
I want to capture strain-rate behaviour of materials but unfortunately abaqus does not have Cowper-Symonds which is a widely used (simple) model. However johnson-cook is to complicate for me as not much details are available in literature as i am modeling bio-materials. Is there any good substitute for Cowper-Symonds models in abaqus. Thanks.

Can nonlinear buckling analysis gives us an over estimate ?

Submitted by omidomid on

I am working on thermal buckling of annular FGM plates using the DQ method in FORTRAN. The results show that for simply-simply edges, the nonlinear thermal buckling loads are greater than those of eigen buckling loads. But for clamped-clamped edges, as it may be expected, the nonlinear buckling loads are under estimate, i.e. they are lower than eigen buckling loads. Why?

Is it possible that the nonlinear buckling analysis gives us an over estimate load ?

Material Parameter Calibration for Johnson Cook

Submitted by priyadd84 on

Hi all ... Is there a way to find/calibrate material parameters for johnson and cook material model using experimental data in Abaqus? .. As far as i know abaqus has something called as data editor with which Hyperelastic materials models can be calibrated with experimental results. If not is there any other way arround to do calibration of material parameter with abaqus.

Geometric nonlinearity

Submitted by sagar_009 on

hi all,

How to decide the geometric nonlinearity?.

i.e If i consider a sturcutre for example-fishing rod or wind turbine blade, how to decide that the structure is geometrically nonlinear.

Does it requires lots of calculations or by experimentation... For example by just observing the structure, is it possible to decide?

What are the reasons to consider the geometric nonliearities.
