Multiple postdoc openings at UC San Diego (USA) and Cardiff University (UK) + two PhDs at Cardiff University (UK)

Applications are sought for multiple Post-Doctoral Research Associates at University of California, San Diego (USA) and Cardiff University (UK) and two PhDs (Cardiff) to join a very active cross-continental M2DO research lab. The primary research focus is to develop topology optimization for multiscale and multiphysics problems optimizing materials and structures. The research members are required to travel between US and UK regardless of their bases.

Applications are sought for four Post-Doctoral Research Associates to join a very active research group at Cardiff University, UK (School of Engineering) and the University of California, San Diego, USA (Structural Engineering Department).  Three postdocs will be based at Cardiff and one at UC San Diego, and there will be frequent interactions and travels between.

Position filled: Postdoc opening in design optimisation at the University of California, San Diego

The Multiscale and Multiphysics Design Optimization Group at the University of California, San Diego, is looking for a Postdoc. The research will develop numerical methods in coupled multiphysics and multiscale topology optimisation in aircraft in a modularized and parallel computing environment. It is expected that the applicants would have background in topology optimization or level set method, aeroelasticity, computer programming and computational mechanics.

Postdoc on FE simulation of 3D printed cellular structures @ Ghent University (Belgium)

"3D printing" is a popular term for the layerwise manufacturing of metals or polymers with a printing head, that builds up the component with droplets of molten polymer or metal into a 3D shape. The geometries that can be realized with this technique, can be very complex, and this with a minimum of material usage, because no material has to be milled away. Further, very lightweight materials can be achieved. Flanders region plays a leading role in Europe in this 3D printing sector, with important industrial players such as Materialise, Layerwise and Melotte.

Journal Club Theme of January 2015: Topology Optimization for Materials Design

Processing technologies are rapidly advancing and manufacturers now have the ability to control material architecture, or topology, at unprecedented length scales. This opens up the design space and provides exciting opportunities for tailoring material properties through design of the material’s topology. But as seen many times in history with advancements in materials and processing technologies, the natural default is to rely on familiar shapes and structure topologies.

    Structural topology optimization, which aims at placing available material within a prescribed design domain appropriately in order to achieve optimized structural performances, has received considerable research attention since the pioneering work of Bendsoe and Kikuchi. Many approaches have been proposed for structural topology optimization and it now has been extended to a wide range of physical disciplines such as acoustics, electromagnetics and optics.

Had somebody implemented the MMA or GCMMA algorithm (Svanberg) in the 99 lines Topology Optimization Matlab code(Sigmund)?

Hello everybody,

 I need some help. I have a lot of problems trying to implement the MMA or GCMMA optimizer in the Sigmund's Topology Optimization code (99 lines). Have you ever do that?. Please, is very important for my pregraduate thesis.
