PhD position for developing an efficient computational platform for additive manufacturing by multi-scale approach and model reduction technique under the framework of finite element and level-set formulation. The additive manufacturing process that will be considered is the SLM process (Selective Laser Melting) for metals.

Cyclic Plasticity of Additively Manufactured (AM) Metals: Experimental Investigation & Constitutive Modelling

Background & Research Objectives

Additive manufacturing (AM) has emerged as a powerful technique for manufacturing of various types of biomaterials and implants. Using AM, it is now possible to fabricate biomaterials with arbitrarily complex shapes at different scales. The inventory of biomaterials that can be used in this way continues to increase, extending the possible range of products and applications.

After several years of research in the area of additive manufacturing, biofabrication, and additively manufactured biomaterials and implants, I finally put up the first version of the website of my lab. I will gradually improve the website, but there is already links to all publications coming out of my lab in the general area of AM.

Advancements in additive manufacturing technology have created the ability to design and construct parts with geometries and properties that cannot be achieved through traditional machining processes. This ability has promoted new design strategies whose success relies on close integration of engineering with materials science. Of particular interest is tailoring specific material properties in low-volume production.
