Joint elements in ABAQUS to model discontinuity in rock
Hi
I am trying to model a rock mass with few discontinuities in ABAQUS. I have to use "joint elements" (Goodman element or the more recent variations) to model the discontinuity. The element should model a separation in tension and a slipping governing by Coulomb friction. Is there any element in ABAQUS capable of modeling such behaviours? If not how can I add one?

Plasticity Model for Autofretage of a Cylinder in ANSYS
Dear All,
I am analyzing a steel pressure vessel with autofretage effect in ANSYS. This effect brings the vessel steel fully plastic in the first load step.After the remval of the load in the second step,a permant strain and residual stress remains in the vessel.The residual stress develops compressive stress in the vessel.

2. Plane Strain
In a completely 3D problem, How can I use ANSYS to calculate stress intensity factor with out using J integral?

Effects of grain boundary adhesion and grain size on ductility of thin metal films on polymer substrates
We study the effects of grain boundary adhesion and grain size on the ductility of thin metal films well bonded to polymer substrates, using finite element method. It is shown that the ductility of polymer-supported metal films increases approximately linearly as the grain boundary adhesion increases, and as the grain size decreases. A rule-of-thumb estimate of the ductility of polymer-supported metal films agrees well with the simulation results.

Viscoelastic prarameters setting in ABAQUs
i'm try to do a dynamic analysis by abaqus and i faced some problems.any help is appreciated.
The structure is a 3 layers plates,a viscoelastic material sandwich between 2 steels.i modeled the 2 steel as sheel 'S8R"and the rubber as contiuum "c3d20r",rubber is not thin. Now i don't know how to set the parameters requried by the Code.I hove some parameters abuout the viscoelastic material.,includeing shear storage modulus G(f)=exp(-2.69292)*f^(0.6937),and loss factor of the material L(f)=exp(0.60503)*f^(-0.08807), Possion ratio=0.49, where f is frequency in Hz.
