Ballistic impact simulation of composite targets in AUTODYN?

Submitted by aswani006 on

In general we use Johnson-Cook model for bullet, which accounts for strain-rate effects, while for the target (Composites), the we use orthotropic constitutive model. Does it mean that strain-rate effects are not important for composites? The Johnson-Cook model cannot be readily used for composites. How does the AUTODYN considers strain rate effects for composites in ballistic impact simulations?

Dear Colleagues,

14th U.S. National Congress on Computational Mechanics (USNCCM14) will be held in Montreal, Canada,  17 – 20 July, 2017. As part of this meeting, we are organizing a symposium (MS710) to bring together experts in modelling, simulation, manufacturing and experimental investigation in the field of soft materials to present and discuss recent advances. Topics of particular interest include (but not limited to)

Sandia Fracture Challenge Update

Submitted by Sharlotte Kramer on
Supplemental information for the third Sandia Fracture Challenge (SFC) is now available!  We have compiled the supplemental information promised in the original information packet and some additional information based on questions we received from participants.  The supplemental information includes electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) data on the Challenge geometry, additional base material tests, raw DIC images and examples of DIC analyses of base material tests, and additional boundary condition information.

Special issue on "Frontiers of Mechanical Metamaterials" in Extreme Mechanics Letters

Submitted by mihussein on

The journal Extreme Mechanics Letters has just published a special issue on "Frontiers of Mechanical Metamaterials" featuring 14 articles. The papers "provide an ensemble of some of the most recent research themes in the field, focusing on 'extreme’ behavior in acoustic and elastic waves, mechanical response, and thermoelasticity." The editorial for the special issue is attached.

Simpleware Workshops: Denmark and Sweden (March 15th-16th 2017)

Submitted by Simpleware on

Join us at the Technical University of Denmark on March 15th, and in Gothenburg on March 16th, for free workshops introducing how to use Simpleware software for 3D image data visualisation, analysis and model generation.

These workshops will cover subjects such as how to process 3D images from modalities such as MRI and CT, how to integrate CAD and image data, how to generate high-quality Finite Element meshes, and how to use the software for applications such as the Life Sciences, Materials Science, Industrial Non-Destructive Testing and Reverse Engineering.

Two M.S. positions in Computational Mechanics and Materials at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth

Submitted by Jun Li on

Applications are invited for two M.S. positions in Computational Mechanics and Materials at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The ideal candidate should have a B.S. in engineering, math or physics. The positions will start in Fall 2017.
