What is mandel stress?
Dear all,
Sometimes, we can see the conception of Mandel Stress, I wonder
What is mandel stress? How to use it?
Thanks.

update, 7/24/2014: The information packet ("SFC2-challenge-v5.ppt") is no longer attached to this post (iMechanica has a file size limit of 1 MB, so we can not attach the 6 MB file). IF YOU WOULD LIKE THE INFO PACKET, PLEASE E-MAIL ME, blboyce [at] sandia.gov and copy Dr. Sharlotte Kramer, slkrame [at] sandia.gov. If you have an older version of the information packet, please also e-mail for the newest (v5) info packet.
We intend to send the shear calibration data to all those whose e-mail address I have by August 1st (sorry for the delay!).
Dear everyone,
The third issue in 2014 (Volume 4, Issue 3) of Theoretical and Applied Mehcanic Letters (TAML) is now online.
Welcome to this young journal http://taml.cstam.org.cn for rapid publication of your exciting results.

Dear colleagues,
You are cordially invited to submit an abstract to Symposium XX: Bridging Scales in Heterogeneous Materials at the 2014 MRS Fall Meeting & Exhibit, to be held
November 30 - December 5, 2014, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Mechanical integrity of bio-inspired composites
There is an immediate opening for a PhD student
position with a target start date of August 2014 in the Computational
Biomechanics and Solid Mechanics Laboratory at Villanova University.
Research projects will be in the general area of
computational mechanics with an emphasis on biological materials. Candidates
with a strong background and interest in mechanics, biomechanics and
computational modeling are encouraged to apply. Candidates with a Master’s
degree and previous research experience are preferred.
My group in the Deaprtment of Engineering Science & Mechanics /Biomedical Engineering has an immediate RA opening, expected to start from the Fall of 2014.
The student of this position will be working on establishing computational mechanics models incorporating essential electrochemical details to study the performance and degradation of battery materials. We use both continuum theories as well as molecular dynamics as essential tools for simulations. The student will also have the opportunities to work with experimental team members on biomechanics.
We are looking for a PhD
student to work on Numerical modelling of landslides and generated seismic waves.
This PhD is funded by the European project ERC SLIDEQUAKES.
