A crack pre-exists in a body. When the body is loaded, the two faces of the crack may simultaneously open and slide relative to each other. The crack is said to be under a mixed-mode condition. When the load reaches a critical level, the crack starts to grow, and usually kinks into a new direction. Subsequently the crack often grows along a curved path.

I mean, is there any graduate course in the title of "Theory of Piezoelectricity" or "Theory of Electroelasticity" -or thing like that, related to the concepts of electro-mechanical coupling behaviour of smart materials- at any university? If so, would you please tell me the name of that institute?

I am performing compression on a viscoelastic material with relaxation only in shear and the bulk being nearly incompressible.
The relaxation times for shear are of the order of millisecons so shear stress is dissipated almost immediately at the end. But there are high stresses due to bulk part.

An effective mechanism that generates large recoverable electric field induced strains in ferroelectric islands is studied by phase-field modeling. The large strains originate from the reversible 90° domain switching between a1 (a2) domains and c domains, driven by an applied electric field and an internal stress field. The electric field induced strains could be effectively controlled by the magnitude of island-substrate misfit and the aspect ratio of islands.

Model reduction based on Propper Orthogonal decomposition is widely used in Computational mechanics to reduce the number of degrees of freedom in systems. In the attached papers, we introduced a POD-based model reduction in a multiscale framework to significantly reduce the computations.
