 The Penn Institute for Computational Science (PICS) will be holding its Kickoff
Symposium on Thursday, October 10, 2013, from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM in the Wu & Chen Auditorium.

Rod Clifton , Rush C. Hawkins University Professor Emeritus and Professor (Research) at the School of Engineering at Brown University, has been selected as the winner of the 2013 Sigma Xi Monie A. Ferst Award .

 A postdoctoral position with primary focus on molecular dynamics simulations is available immediately at Shenoy Research Group  under the direction of Prof. Vivek B. Shenoy .  We are looking for a strongly motivated candidate to work on modeling of nanomaterials and soft materials. The ideal candidate will have a background in materials science/computational physics with expertise in molecular dynamics simulations with LAMMPS or other packages.  This individual will have the opportunity to be directly involved in complimentary experimental investigations, both at Penn and our collaborators in industry. 

 A postdoctoral position with primary focus on first principles modeling is available immediately at Shenoy Research Group at UPenn. We are looking for a strongly motivated candidate to work on modeling the performance characteristics
of nanomaterials for energy storage. The ideal candidate will have a background
in materials science/computational physics/quantum chemistry with expertise in density functional theory

A postdoctoral position with
primary focus on finite element simulations of active biopolymer
networks is available immediately at Shenoy Research Group @ Brown University . We are looking for a strongly
motivated candidate to work on the mechanics of active cytoskeletal
networks. The ideal candidate will have a background in solid
mechanics/computational physics with expertise in finite element simulations. Experience with Monte Carlo methods and stochastic simulations is desired but not essential.  This
individual will have the opportunity to be directly involved in

 Ares Rosakis Sc.M.’80 Ph.D.’83 from Brown University was awarded the 2011 A. CermalEringen
Medal of the Society of Engineering Science (SES) in recognition of
hissustained contributions to dynamic fracture mechanics and methods to
determinestresses in thin film structures. Medalists for 2011 were
announced at therecent 48th Annual Technical Meeting of SES at
Northwestern University.
