Thermal-fluid structural analysis

Submitted by miroslav1312 on

Hello,everybody

Can somebody help me,I need to do a thermal -fluid-structural analysis in abaqus.I did thermal-structural but alsoi i need to add CFD anylysis of natural convectio

the best way in abaqus..Is it possible to calculate natural convection and buyoancy drivenn flow in abaqus CFD as a coupled problem with thermal-structural analysis

if yes,how?

Thank you for every idea

request for recommendations for contemporary topics in undergrad mechanics of materials class

Submitted by yawlou on

Hello everyone,

I am currently teaching an undergraduate mechanics of materials course.  I would like to spend one class period on contemporary issues.  I am wondering what suggestions mechanicians may have.  I have noticed in recent years that several topics are of interest.

1. thin films

2. soft tissue/soft materials

3. fracture mechanics

(I must add I personally don't know much about these, but I see these come up often. )

WAW-100 and 600kN load capacity of Elctrohydrualic sero Universal Testing Machine how to fix or Adjust strain rate

Submitted by dawit2012 on

Hi, i am going to run my Experiment for tensile testing of different steel samples at different strain rates ofcourse it is Medium strain rate (1*10-1  - 1*103 s-1 ). and my quetion here is how to adjust my strain rates on this machine? is the cross head speed a strain rate?  if that is the case i think the cross head speed of the machine i am going to use is max. 15 mm/s. so  it is very small for my ranges to apply . any one can help me or give me comment on this issue.

I appriciate any help that comes to me.

thank you

Dear all. Most of us are working already or planning join to oil and gas industry as an engineer,so you will do routine jobs frequently. I would like to share incidents/accidents and near misses those happened in the rig where I work and explain reasons ,how to avoid them. I hope you will benefit from this information in you future career.

Applied Mechanics Division Honors & Awards Banquet, 13 November 2012, Level Four, Grand Ballroom C, Hilton Americas, Houston.

It is a tremendous honor to speak at the Applied Mechanics Dinner as this year’s Timoshenko medalist.  I was one year old when Prof. Stephen Timoshenko delivered the inaugural lecture in this series.  I was a teenager when I first heard his name, and used his textbook on elasticity for my undergraduate class.

Topic 40: Does the value placed on human life have an effect on safety

Discuss the relationship between safety and human life, with respect to the effect of the financial value placed on human life and how an increase or a reduction in  the value placed on human life will affect the general concept of safety management.

Position within ERC Strarting Grant MINATRAN in Univ of Erlangen

Submitted by kaifanti on

There is a postdoctoral research postition within Dr. K.E. Aifantis's ERC Starting Grant at the Univ of Erlangen. The project is concerned with examining dislocation_interface interactions through gradient plasticty and simulations. A PhD in materials engineering is required and publications in the field must be evident. If a good experimental candidate is found who can perform in situ TEM/nanoindentation experiments he/she will also be considered. The position needs to be filled asap and can be extended for 18 months.

There is a postdoctoral research position within Dr. K.E. Aifantis's ERC Grant MINATRAN at the Univ of Erlangen. It is concerned with the effect of nanoparticles on cell cultures. A PhD in materials science, or cell biology is required as well as knowledge on cell cultures and materials characterization (SEM/TEM). The position needs to be filled asap and can be extended to 18 months upon positive evaluation. Those interested please contact katerinaaifantis [at] gmail.com
