Discontinuum numerical modelling with 3dec

Submitted by Andrea.Delisio on

Hello,

As part of my PhD, I have to study the problem of the stability of the excavation face in tunnels driven in jointed/blocky rock masses. Therefore, I`m trying to build a 3d discontinuum model with 3dec. As I`m rather new to this code, I have a series of doubts (mainly concerning the way to reduce the size of the model and then the time needed for cutting the block geometry and running the calculation).

I would be really glad if someone who knows the code could help me.

Thank you!

Andrea

Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Biomechanics

Submitted by vicky.nguyen on

The Soft Materials Mechanics Laboratory
and the Glaucoma Center of Excellence invite applications for a postdoctoral
position in the area of experimental biomechanics to characterize the mechanical
behavior of eye tissues, particularly the sclera and optic nerve head, in mouse
models of glaucoma. The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in a funded
project aimed at understanding how the structure and mechanical behavior of the
sclera and may influence the development and progression of glaucoma. An
initial appointment will be for a 12-month period with future renewal contingent
on performance. Salary will be based on the level of experience. Review of

Notched tensile specimens and force-displacement response.

Submitted by L.Farbaniec on

 Dear forum members,

I'm trying to simulate a tensile test (of ductile material) using smooth and notched specimens. I've started with a simple model without damage (isotropic von Mises plasticity implemented in ABAQUS) to compare the force vs. displacement response between simulations and experiments.
