How to set oil properties in ABAQUS 6.9

Submitted by Rajeev Kumar Singh on

Dear All,

I am new to ABAQUS and trying to simulate my microdamper for fundamental mode frequency. In simulation (Version 6.9), I am trying to set silicone oil properties. This microdamper has three layers viz. Aluminum, Polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS) and Aluminum. I have carved microchannels in PDMS and filled silicone oil to these microchannels.

Silicone oil properties are:

Shear modulus = 1.43e9 Pa

Bulk modulus = 1.0349e9 Pa

Density = 760 Kg/m3

Were you using FEA in 1995?

All,

Anybody have approximate run times for the following linear static problems:

A) In 1995 on a reasonable workstation

20,000 degree of freedom

B) Now on modern desktop computer with quad core and plenty of RAM

20,000 degree of freedom

200,000 degree of freedom

1,000,000 degree of freedom

Any contributions/guesses/opinions welcome. The scatter will be useful.

Thanks

Lee
