Non-linear buckling analysis - complex loading

Submitted by ramdas chennamsetti on

Hi all,

I have attached a single slide ppt file with this blog. In this slide, there is a hollow cylinder subjected to internal pressure and non-uniform axial load. All the translations at the bottom of the cylinder are fixed. As a whole the cylinder is subjected to a complex loading. The cylinder is modeled using SHELL elements in ANSYS. Now I know how to carry out non-linear buckling analysis in ANSYS.

Effect of mechanical pre-stretch on the stabilization of dielectric elastomer actuation

Submitted by Bo Li on

A dielectric elastomer is capable of giant electromechanical actuation but fails at breakdown due to instability under certain conditions with a small deformation. By applying a mechanical pre-stretch, one obtains a stabilized large actuation.

Deadline is approaction: 10 april - "Risø Int. Symposium: Composite materials for structural performance: towards higher limits"

Submitted by Bent F. Sørensen on

The deadline for abstract submission for the 32, 10th April 2011, is approaching. The title of the 32nd Risø International Symposium on Materials Science is "Composite materials for structural performance: towards higher limits". The Symposium will be held from Monday 5th September to Friday 9th September 2011 at Risoe DTU - National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Technical University of Denmark, 4000 Roskilde, Denmark. We think this is an exciting Symposium theme and we are proud to present a great list of key-note presentations:

ICoBT 2011 - Call for paper - deadline 15 April 2011

Submitted by Laure Ballu on

3 weeks left to submit your abstract for the International Conference on BioTribology (ICoBT 2011).

The topic of research must include a biological surface as part of the interface (eg articular cartilage, skin), have a direct impact on biological function (eg prosthetic joints, dental implants), or involve the implementation of natural lubrication in man-made systems (biomimetics).

For mor information or to submit your abstract, please go to www.biotribologyconference.com

cohesive simulation in abaqus

Submitted by manivannan on

Hi all ,

I am simulating Cohesive zone simulation of polymer coated steel using abaqus 6.9 ( Room Temp ).  The thickness of steel plate is 0.8mm ( 800 Micrometre). Thickness of PET ( Poly Polyethylene terephthalate ) is 0.03 mm ( 30 micrometre ). Cohesive zone is defined in between these two materials with zero thickness. I use standard traction seperation method embedded in abaqus 6.9. I have the following questions
