Postdoctoral Position in Multiscale Mechanical Modeling at Cornell

Submitted by Derek Warner on

A postdoctoral position is available starting June 1st within the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. The project entails an investigation of the key features associated with ductile fracture in aluminum alloys.  The investigation will utilize a concurrent discrete-dislocation atomistic simulation framework and will likely

Post-Doctoral position available on X-FEM for the simulation of fracture in composites

Submitted by Nicolas MOES on

A one year (renewable) post-doc position is avalaible at the Ecole Centrale of Nantes, France.

The research deals with the simulation of complex cracking patterns in composites using

the eXtended Finite Element method (X-FEM).

To apply : a CV + name of at least two references.

are there platforms similar to iMechanica? should we list them all?

Submitted by Mike Ciavarella on

I think it would be useful to collect a list of most useful sites, to start with iMechanica-look-alike.  Not exactly similar but a good site for CFD is http://www.cfd-online.com/.  This incidentally suggests us some "ways" to improve iMechanica.  (see my other blog PROPOSAL for iMechanica node/2996)

Program available for 1st IC Abrasive Processes

Submitted by Dean Eastbury on

The oral presentation program for the 1st International Conference on Abrasive Processes (ICAP-1) is now available at the conference website (www.icap.elsevier.com). Evolving from earlier meetings [the International Conference on Liquid and Solid Impact (ELSI-IX) and the International Conference on Erosive and Abrasive Wear (ICEAW-II)], ICAP-1 will be held in the historic city of Cambridge, England, 21-25 September 2008. You are invited to join your peers by registering for this popular single-stream meeting.

Seek a conference paper on the 18th ASCE Engineering Mechanics Division Conference, June, 2007, Virginia, USA.

Submitted by H. T. Zhu on

Hi, Everyone,

I would like to seek a conference paper titled "EPC method for PDF solution of nonlinear oscillators excited by Poisson white noise" in the proceedings of the 18th ASCE Engineering Mechanics Division Conference, June, 2007, Virginia, USA. (CD-ROM). Acutally, I am the second author of the paper and haven't participated in the conference because of no USA visa. So, I have not a copy of the proceedings.

ResearcherID, a unique identifier of a researcher

Submitted by Zhigang Suo on

On the Web of Science my name appears sometimes as Suo Z and sometimes as Suo ZG.  If I search for Suo Z*, papers by a biologist named Suo ZM mix in.  Now Suo is a very rare name.  I cannot imagine how Wang JS searches for his papers.  Last year Michelle Oyen and I talked about assigning a unique identifier to each researcher, much like assigning an ISBN to each edition of a book, or assigning a DOI to each paper.

How simulate slurry's filtration in porous media?

Submitted by Xiangpeng Kong on

I wanna simulate the penetration of the slurry into soil when TBM is used to construct tunnel.  Although much more research has been done by experiments,I wanna use CFD to simulate the process which can make it more common and efficient.

For it is very similar to filtration cake physically,I would like to use some results by this. But it is very difficult to sumulate it by the software ANSYS CFD.

Is there some guy who have tried is field?Any suggestion will be appreciated!
