piezoelectric composite beam analysis using ABAQUS

Submitted by ramesh.iitdelhi on

Hi!! all

  I am doing analysis of piezoelectric composite beam as 2-d problem. there are 5 layers. top layer is PZT-5A and bottom 4 layers are cross ply graphite-epoxy . beam is simply supported and load is udl pressure. plz tell me how to model this beam in ABAQUS.

Thanks u.

ASME 2008 Conference Track on Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Fluids

Submitted by Tayfun E. Tezduyar on

The ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress (IMECE 2008) will be held on October 31 - November 6, 2008, in Boston, Massachusetts. http://www.asmeconferences.org/Congress08/. A wide range of mechanics-related symposia (topics) are being organized in Track 12 Mechanics of Solids, Structures and Fluids. The Executive Committee of the ASME Applied Mechanics Division (AMD) believes that this track will provide a good platform for mechanics-related presentations.

Fracture energy - Garwood method?

Submitted by Mai Lan NGUYEN on

Anyone know the Garwood method which is used to determine the fracture energy of concrete (composite materials)?

Garwood method: with a load - load line displacement curve of an three point bending fracture test (or SENB), we have firstly:

J0=2U0/B(H-a0)

After, an iterative relation is used:

Jn=Jn-1(H-an)/(H-an-1)+2Un/B(H-an-1)

B,H : width and height of the beam respectively.

a : crack length
