The Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA, invites nominations and applications for five tenure-track faculty positions. Applications are sought from candidates with expertise in the traditional aerospace disciplines, promising new research areas, and cross-cutting interdisciplinary fields. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to, aerodynamics, design and manufacturing, structures and solid mechanics, and autonomy for aerospace systems.

As the importance of micromechanics is increasingly realized in composites design & manufacturing at the industry level, cdmHUB is launching a Micromechanics Simulation Challenge for the purpose of establishing the best practices for homogenization and dehomogenization needed in composites design and manufacturing.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for several tenure-track faculty positions to begin July 2015 or thereafter.  Appointments will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level. 1) Mechanics in electrochemistry. We develop atomistically informed continuum mechanics models, coupling mechanics and lithium reaction and diffusion to account for a wide range of in-situ experimental phenoemna. Some recent publications:

Recent experiments showed that the Lode parameter, which distinguishes between axisymmetric and shear dominated stress states, has a profound effect on material ductility, especially at low stress triaxiality. Consequently, the theoretical framework for void growth and coalescence is currently being revisited, which often involve performing representative volume element (RVE) calculations. The present study investigates an RVE composed of a cubic unit cell containing a spherical void at its center.

3D numerical simulations of fatigue damage of multiscale fiber reinforced polymer composites with secondary nanoclay´reinforcement are carried out. Macro–micro FE models of the multiscale composites are generated automatically using Python based software. The effect of the nanoclay reinforcement (localized in the fiber/matrix interface (fiber sizing) and distributed throughout the matrix) on the crack path, damage mechanisms and fatigue behavior is investigated in numerical experiments.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the George Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor starting fall semester 2015.
