Ideas for a Mechanician

I am soliciting advice for how to continue to keep mechanics skills sharp while in a more business/leadership role.  

 

Please advise on techniques you have used or suggestions for ways to stay current.

1-3 Piezoelectric Butterfly Curve

Hello Everyone,

I try to plot the butterfly curve for piezoelectric material (strain vs. electric field for different applied stress values). Butterfly curve shows the nonlinear response of the piezoelectric material which is a hysteretic response.

I just want to ask you guys if anybody knows a good way to plot butterfly curve for 1-3 piezoelectric materials in matlab????

Gatherin results from multiple points in the parametric study

Hi everybody! 

I am doing a large parametric study of a composite shaft. I am working with 5 variables and the number of simulations and data will be quite big. 

I would like to gather results automatically on a circumferential path around the shaft. (About 60 elements) 
Is it possible to do it with a "gather" command - I think that only one node/integration point can be defined at "gather" command. 

Has anyone already done something like that and how did you solve the problem.

As advanced energy materials with higher conversion efficiencies, enhanced storage capacities, and better reliabilities are being developed to meet the ever-increasing global energy needs, mechanics has emerged as one of the key factors that affect the performance of energy systems. In thermoelectric energy conversion for waste heat recovery, thermal stress is a big concern for reliabilities, and the efficiency and reliability of photovoltaic materials is similarly affected by strain and mechanical defects.

Connecting beam elements (B21/B22) with plane stress (CPS4) elements

Hello All,

I am trying to build a homogenized model of beam elements and 2D solid elements in abaqus 6.12. I tried connecting beam elements with plane stress elements through sharing (common) nodes with basic interaction module. The node of beam element (lower end) and node of solid element (upper) are connected through a wire offered in interaction module. This wire have been assigned connector properties. I tried to connect with axial (translation) + rotation connector, so the bending of beam can be transferred to solid elements. But I did not get expected behavior.

COMSOL Course in Houston - Advanced Structural Mechanics

Veryst Engineering is offering a 2-day in-person training course on Advanced Structural Mechanics using COMSOL Multiphysics. The course will be in Houston on November 3-4, and it will cover basic and advanced structural/solid mechanics capabilities in COMSOL including contact, material modeling, and fatigue.
