Post-Doctoral Opening on Multiscale Modeling of Materials

Submitted by marisolkoslowski on

We are seeking to hire outstanding candidates for a post-doctoral research position in

the Koslowski’s group at Purdue University to work on dislocation dynamics and/or

continuum modeling of plasticity. The project involves developing and applying

numerical methods to study creep and plastic deformation in nano and ultrafine

crystalline materials. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with a

wide range of experimentalists and theoreticians in academia, industry and national labs.

Electric Potential B.C. in the Dynamic/Explicit Step

Submitted by mhdiab on
Hey all,

I am trying to apply an Electric Potential B.C. to a surface. I want to use the dynamic/explicit analysis type, however, when I select that as my step type, the Electric Potential B.C. option disappears from the edit B.C. window! Is that due to a license limitation or an error I might have made in one of the definitions?

Thank you!

Overhead Electrical Conductors

In elementary mechanics textbooks, power lines are generally given as a typical example of a so-called “flexible cable”. However, in the design of these critical elements of a power grid  it is often necessary to take into account the conductor bending stiffness, or flexural rigidity. While relatively low compared with a bar having an equivalent solid cross-section, it does have some influence on a conductor response to wind excitation, in particular from the fatigue strength point of view.
