Fracture Resistance of Silicon With Nano Scratch Testing

Submitted by NANOVEA on

Scratch testing, using nano loads, has become widely used for the study of adhesion strength and marring resistance of thin films and coatings. This same test can also be used to study fracture behavior on brittle substrates similar to a marring resistance test approach. This can provide an in-depth observation of failure on delicate substrate materials at precisely controlled and recorded loads.

Post Doc Position: Risk-based Selection of Constitutive Models for Geotechnical Analysis, EC Nantes (France)

Submitted by Panagiotis KOTRONIS on

Post Doc description:

Soil, as a typical natural material, has very complex behaviour which is very difficult to be accurately modelled. In geotechnical engineering, about half of the accidents are caused by insufficient designs. The soil’s constitutive model is the fundamental issue for modelling and analyzing soil-related engineering systems.

2D modelling of laser welding

Submitted by Tisha on

while carrying out a simple 2D analysis of welding of butt joint considering the source of constant heat flux and applying it at certain nodes as constant heat flux, i encountered a problem that it says that the temperature at particular node is exceeding the pre set limit and no solution is obtained. I am a freshman in Ansys so any help in this regard will be helpful

Energy Formulation of ELPD (Element Plastic Dissipation) ?

Submitted by shahram on

Hello Everybody

I can not find any theoric formula for ELPD in the ABAQUS theory manual and I need to know if we use eqivalent strees-equivalent strain and integrate to strain of fracture, does it give us plastic dissipation energy of an element?

Integrate[EQStress*d(EQStrain), {0,Fracture Strain}] ?

 Thank you all

Discontinuum numerical modelling with 3dec

Submitted by Andrea.Delisio on

Hello,

As part of my PhD, I have to study the problem of the stability of the excavation face in tunnels driven in jointed/blocky rock masses. Therefore, I`m trying to build a 3d discontinuum model with 3dec. As I`m rather new to this code, I have a series of doubts (mainly concerning the way to reduce the size of the model and then the time needed for cutting the block geometry and running the calculation).

I would be really glad if someone who knows the code could help me.

Thank you!

Andrea
