Advanced Finite Element Analysis for the Skyhook- Boeing HLV Aircraft

Boeing and Skyhook International entered into an agreement whereby Boeing will design and build two prototypes of the new Skyhook HLV aircraft. This hybrid airship is intended to carry 40 tons of cargo 100 miles. Due to the flexible, non-linear nature of fabric airship envelopes, as well as the complexity of designing a hybrid airship, the internal loads model for this aircraft is being developed in Abaqus and will be solved non-linearly.

Hello everybody,

I am simulating contact problem . Two sutfaces are in contact. One of them is anamytial surface. My slave surface doesn't deforms properly, master surface goes through my slave surface. Please help me with advice, which properties should i put for interaction?  What should be the reason of such mistake.

Stress concentartion factors in the beams with hole

Dear All,

A section of a beam with hole is subjected to the shear and moment. Assuming that we ignore the moment in the section of the beam, is there any formulation for obtaining the stress concentration due to shear only. I have attached a picture of the problem.

Simulate tensile test with damage, ideas?

Hello everybody,



I want to simulate a tensile test using "damage for ductile metals" and "ductile damage". ABAQUS requires three parameters:

-Equivalent fracture strain at damage initiation (a)

-stress-triaxiality (b)

-strain rate (c)

I have already seen Abaqus analysis user's manual (23.2.2), but there's no example. 



Currently, I defined a 3D solid deformable  and an elastic and plastic behavior. I do not understand how to select a first set of parameters for the "ductile damage".

Lithium batteries--When mechanics meets chemistry

When I learned chemistry in college, the subject was presented to me with equations of chemical reactions.  It took me some time to realize a couple of simple points:  reactants need to meet to produce a product, and compounds take space.

The connection between chemistry and mechanics is made vivid to me in recent years in studying lithium batteries.  As an example, here is a recent paper when chemistry is linked with plasticity, mass transport, and fracture—essential ingredients of solid mechanics.
