Atomistic Modeling of Materials Failure by M. J. Buehler

Submitted by Denvid Lau on

This book is an introduction to molecular and atomistic modeling techniques applied to solid deformation and fracture.  Focusing on various brittle, ductile and geometrically confined materials, this book includes computational methods at the atomistic scale, and describes how these techniques can be used to model the dynamics of crack, dislocations and other deformation mechanisms.

getting interfacial strain

Submitted by sandra on

i have modelled a 3D  RC beam and strengthened it with FRP and used cohesive elment for modelling the adhesive .

so for finding theinterfacial  strain between concrete and FRP ,which strain must I opt for namely , E, NE, LE, PE

And  i want to know what theses stand for(E11, NE11, LE22) . I hav read it in manual but can I get more information on this

Effects of mismatch strain and substrate surface corrugation on morphology of supported monolayer graphene

Submitted by Rui Huang on

In a previous work, substrate-modulated morphology of graphene was analyzed using a numerical Monte Carlo method. Here we present an analytical approach that explicitly relates the van der Waals interaction energy to the surface corrugation and the interfacial properties. Moreover, the effect of mismatch strain is considered, which predicts a strain-induced instability under a compressive strain and reduced corrugation under a tensile strain.

Determination of strain energy release rate in an adhesive by using VCCT-Method with abaqus

Submitted by kianoosh kiai on

Hello dear friends, I want to simulate a fracture process in an adhesive by the using of Double Cantilever Beam (DCB). My approach is the determination of strain energy release rate by the using of Virtual crack closure technique (VCCT). But I don’t know how can I begin with this. Can some one help me. Thanks a lot before because of your help.

Subsea Integrity

Submitted by Henry Tan on

I am teaching Subsea Integrity for the MSc students majoring in Subsea Engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Aberdeen. This is a course that combines the fundamental principles (corrosion, fracture, fatigue and material selection) with the industry applications (subsea integrity management and implementation, cathodic protection, case studies on subsea reliability and engineering assurance).

Creating a path in ABAQUS using node set or elementset

Submitted by arasuk on

Hi, I am interested to creating a path in visualising results in ABAQUS CAE.

Then I wish to plot xy plot of say x-distance Vs principal stress. How to achieve

say using node set or slement set.

I did by creating a path in the area of interest by many many mouse clicks.

I wish to avoid this, that's why I created node set or element set. After this

creating a path on this elset and plotting an xy plot is what my interet.

Highly appreciated to have feedback from experienced users. Thanks.
