Helping to simulate necking in Tensile Test in ABAQUS

Submitted by Danish Khan on

Hello everyone...i am just a beginner in using ABAQUS...well i have been trying to simulate uniaxial tensile test through abaqus..i was succesfull in simluating the plastic part in it...but i am not able to figure out how to to introduce necking and ductile fracture in it...i tried to incorporate ductile damage in it but its showing error in it...can any one tell me how to know the value of stress triaxility??...its showing error like  "plastic strain exceeded 50 times the expected value at 49 points"..and so on..can any one help me out??..i am working on ABAQUS 6.6 student edition..

Fourth order tensor

Submitted by ramdas chennamsetti on

Hi all,

I have a fundamental question on Tensors. The length of a vector (firts order tensor) is independent of the reference co-ordinate system. In case of second order tensor (stress/strain), the invariants (I1, I2, I3) are independent of the co-ordinate system.

If I consider 4th order tensor (of course 3rd order also), say Cijkl, what parameters are constant? (Like length in vector and invariants in second order tensors).

Thanks in advance,

- Ramdas

Influence of Penalty stiffness factor on simulation results

Submitted by abeed on

The default value of penalty stiffness scale factor in Ansys-Lsdyna  is 0.1, when one varies this value, he/she obtains different results, the question, how can one  know the right value of penalty stiffness scale factor?

I am simulating the impact of a 6mm - diameter steel solid ball with a rigid falt surface using Ansys-Lsdyna. the speed of the ball at the impact moment  is low (from 1 to 10 m/s). specificly, i am intersted in the period between  just touching and  just leaving the ground for the first impact.

Stress/Strain calculation

Submitted by uni_students2009 on

Hello

what do think why investigators await about 3 decades to calculation of local stress/strain by elastic-plastic fracture mechanics?and basically why elber's discovery[crack closure] was so important and play a key role in numerous articles?

How can i calcualtion the amount of load transfer through the contacting crack faces?

How can i determine the location of it?

Thank you

Hadi
