Two positions for PhD or M.A.Sc in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) are open for applicants. The positions are in the field of:
1- Development of materials with rich microstructures including gradient nano-grained materials in lightweight metals.
2- Development of Multiscale & Multiphysics techniques for modeling materials at the nanoscale including ab-initio techniques and molecular dynamics.
An interesting paper by VL Popov which suggests many problems of tribology are still very far from being remotely solved. Despite the very detailed theories for example on rough contact using fractal surfaces on which we have debated mainly academically , there is not a single theory for any quantitative prediction of friction coefficient which can vary by 1 order of magnitude and its dependence on many variables, let alone wear coefficient which can vary up to 7 orders of magnitude. What is left to do, other than measure? Is tribology bound to be in practice just an
Dear iMechanica,
We are pleased to present Cast2cloud (http://cast2cloud.com), the first and only web-based platform for interacting with Cast3M. The latter is a finite element software developed by the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) for mechanical and thermal simulations. It is available free of charge for teaching and research. For further information, please refer to http://www-cast3m.cea.fr/.
Within the framework of an international project, COHMAS LAboratory at KAUST is looking for highly motivated postdoctoral researcher. The aim is to work on a transversal research collaborative (CRG 2017) on adhesive bonding of carbon-fiber reinforced composite materials between KAUST and University of Calabria. The project deals with the development of new concepts for adhesive bonding of carbon fiber reinforced composite materials. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in manufacturing, mechanics and characterization of polymer composites or a closely related subject.
Extreme Mechanics Letters (EML) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2018 Extreme Mechanics Letters Young Investigator Award, Professor Lihua Jin of University of California at Los Angeles, USA, and Professor Xiaoyan Li of Tsinghua University, Beijing, China.
Date / Time: Wednesday, December 12, 2018 / 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Location: Synopsys Wissous, Paris, France
Fee: Free-to-attend. Pre-registration is required as places are limited
Who Should Attend
Applications are invited for a University Lectureship (equivalent to a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the US system) in Biomechanics and Mechanobiology. The successful candidate will join the Mechanics, Materials and Design Division to add to its expertise in Bioengineering. Applicants should have earned a Ph.D. in Engineering or a related discipline and ideally with post-doctoral experience.
