PhD position in computational mechanics
We in Aalto University School of Engineering are looking for a doctoral student to work on numerical modelling of fragmentation of quasi-brittle materials. In more detail, you will study breakage and fragmentation of ice blocks. These phenomena occur under compressive loads in ice block to ice block contacts. The fragmentation process is complicated, and requires novel numerical modelling techniques. Modelling may need to be done on different scales, which may have to reach from very high resolution modeling to simplified contact models on larger scale.

GTN model
I have 2 questions regarding GTN model.
1) What does q1, q2, q3 signify in GTN damage model? What are their physical meanings. I know only their numerical values.
2) How to deal with the problem of GTN in Compression? It is working fine with tension but while in compression it is unable to converge.
