Dear Colleagues:

We would like to invite you to present your work at "Symposium on Mechanics of Soft Materials" in ASME 2014 International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition ASME Congress and Exposition, Montreal's downtown convention center, 14-20 November 2014.

Symposium Description
Over the past few years, soft materials have driven our community into new exciting directions. Owning to their mechanical flexibility, soft materials can be easily deformed by multiple thermodynamic forces such as mechanical stress, electric field, magnetic field, and chemical potential. The large deformations and instabilities of soft materials in response to external stimuli are immensely rich, albeit nontrivial. As a result, they offer exciting opportunities to design multifunctional materials and devices with novel properties, through the appropriate design of the material composition and structural layout. The symposium will address recent experimental, computational and theoretical advances in this direction.

Topics of particular interest include but are not limited to:

  •     Soft Active Materials
  •     Gels
  •     Interphasial Phenomena in Soft Matter
  •     Instabilities in Soft Materials and Structures
  •     Damage in Soft Materials
  •     Computational Multifield Problems
  •     Printed Soft Active Materials
  •     Bioinspired Soft Materials
  •     Soft Metamaterials
  •     Structure-Property Relations in Soft Materials
  •     Shape-Memory Polymers
  •     Morphogenesis of soft and living matter
