2022 Stephen P. Timoshenko Medal - Professor Michael A. Sutton

The Executive Committee of the ASME Applied Mechanics Division is pleased to congratulate Michael A. Sutton, Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, University of South Carolina, as the recipient of the 2022 Timoshenko Medal.  This award, which includes a medal, a plaque, and an honorarium, will be presented at the Applied Mechanics Division Awards Dinner, during the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition(IMECE 2022), to be held during October 30 – November 3, 2022, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The Timoshenko Medal was established in 1957 and is conferred in recognition of distinguished contributions to the field of applied mechanics. Instituted by the Applied Mechanics Division, it honors Stephen P. Timoshenko, world-renowned authority in the field, and it commemorates his contributions as author and teacher.

Professor Sutton receives the Timoshenko Medal for contributions in the creation and development of fundamental theory, dissemination, and application of digital image correlation methods in solid mechanics, providing unprecedented measurement capabilities to the field of applied mechanics.
