3D Composite model in ABAQUS

Dear Abaqus Users,
I would like to model 3D composite structures using Hashin Damage model in ABAQUS. I have seen in ABAQUS manual that Hashin damage model is applicable only for shell element. I would like know whether I can use 3D element available in ABAQUS. Any help would be higly appreciated.

continuum shell element
The Hansim damage initiation criteria must be used with elements with a plane stress formulation, which include plane stress, shell, continuum shell, and membrane elements.
I suggest you use the continuum shell element which costs less computation than solid element but the effect is almost the same.

Continuum shell vs solid elements
Hello,
I know that this post is quite old but I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit more about the difference between SOLID and CONTINUUM SHELL elements.
I am asking this because I used Abaqus/CAE to simulate a delamination between two plates using solid and continuum shell elements (with a cohesive behavior surface interaction between them).
I could see a crack propagation in the continuum shell case but not in the solid one (the platestips bendend a lot but the crack did not propagate). It was like the plates modeled with continuum shell elements were stiffer than the ones modeled with solid elements.
I used exactely the same properties for the plates and the interaction between them. I also used more or less the same element size for the two cases.
Do you know why this is happening?
