How to define eulerian region for 2D modeling of orthogonal machining using ALE adaptive mesh constraints?

Submitted by AmirAshy on

HI

I am working with abaqus6.8.1. I am interesting to model orthogonal
machining by ALE adaptive remeshing IN 2D. In this way I have a problem.
For modeling of machinig inflow and outflow surfaces(eulerian) with
inflow boundary condithion type velocity(eulerian) must be defined.but
the default definition of surfaces and region or boundary type in abaqus
are lagrangian. I read on user manual that this type must be change to
eulerian.

I am trying to model a tube which is filled with liquid that is being crushed.  I am using Coupled Eulerian Lagrangian to model the problem in abaqus, and there are a few distortions/errors in the model.  I am using symmetry to model only quarter of the model.  The liquid actually comes out from the sides of the tubes as the two attached pictures show.

How are Compression Modulus and Tensile Modulus related to Lame` constants?

Hello everyone

I have a material with a compression modulus and tensile modulus along with Poisson's ratio. Are compression modulus and tensile modulus related to the Lame` constants? Or does this material fall under 'cubic symmetry' which needs three elastic constants? In that case, how are they related to the elastic coefficients (C12, C44 or C11)?

I need to incorporate these material properties in ABAQUS. How do I model this material in ABAQUS?

Any lead on this problem is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am Mechanical Engineering student I have problems

with finding book with solved problems in Potential Flows,

Fluid Mechanics.

I would be grateful if you could  recommend me

some book or other source wich contains many

solved problems of this matter.

Thank you very much.

How to define Pre-Strain (or Pre-Tension) in ABAQUS?

Submitted by mremami on

Hi,

I want to medel an overhead line conductor in Abaqus. As you know, the suspended cable has a parapolic (or catenary) profile under its weight. There is a pre-tension (or pre-strain in elastic region) on the cable due to its weight.

I found in the help of Abaqus that I can use the "Bolt load" option to define the pre-tension, but it does not work for my model. Because my model doesn't have surface to choose for this type of load (it's a 2D wire part).

Would you please let me know how can I define this pre-tension (or pre-strain) in my model?

What is axis of pure rotation?

Submitted by sreenath on

The concept of axis of of pure rotation  ( or instantatious center of rotation)  is a bit confusing. The text books in engineering mechanics( Irvin shames , Beer & Johnston etc) tells that the locus of points in a body, which is (are) having zero veloity.   This fits  well in case of a 2D motion. As a limiting case of this we are assuming the center of rotation is at inifinity for a rigid body moving in a straight line

Cohesive elements parameters

Submitted by parisa on

Hi,

I am working a long time on using cohesive elements in ABAQUS but up to now my efforts have be unsucessful.

I want to use of cohesive elements with the following paramters:

Damage initiation: Normal stres= 1.9 MPa, shear stress= 6.2 MPa

Damage evolution:  Mode I fracture energy= 0.5307, Mode II farcture energy= 0.6623

Could any body kindly let me know that what would be my model E/Knn, E/Kss parameters?

Thank you,

Parisa

convergence problem in interface delamination modeling in ansys

Submitted by saeedspace on

hi every body..

im trying to  model interface delamination in ansys. i use inter204 or 205 for interface element.the problem is that as the stress in interface riches the yield value, the solution doesnt converge.

i tried to increase  the number of substeps or decrease the size of element, but the problem still exists.

Stress Wave Propagation in a Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar

Submitted by Emeka on

Hello I am a student of the University of Manchester. I am modelling a SHPB assembly together with the specimen, and I am having trouble with placing the loads, creating the boundary constrain between the incident, transmitter bar and the specimen. I created the interaction between the assembly with a suppressed TIE, and after loading and submitting the job I kept on getting errors. The load did not transmit to up to a quarter of the incident bar.
