Two PhD positions are available immediately in Computational Materials and Mechanics Laboratory at the Colorado School of Mines

Submitted by mohsenzaeem on

Two PhD positions are available immediately in the Computational Materials and Mechanics Laboratory at the Colorado School of Mines.

Candidates should have a master's degree in mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, solid-state physics, or applied mathematics. A background in phase field modeling, molecular dynamics, and/or density functional theory calculations is desired.

Postdoc position in granular mechanics and discrete element modeling

Submitted by QiushiChen on

A postdoc position is available in the area of computational mechanics, in particular, granular mechanics and discrete element modeling (DEM), in support of a Department of Energy-funded research project on Integrated Process Optimization for Biochemical Conversion. This is a multidisciplinary research project with collaborations between multiple academic institutions and the DOE's Idaho National Laboratory.

PhD position in computational mechanics

Submitted by Arttu Polojärvi on

We in Aalto University School of Engineering are looking for a doctoral student to work on numerical modelling of fragmentation of quasi-brittle materials. In more detail, you will study breakage and fragmentation of ice blocks. These phenomena occur under compressive loads in ice block to ice block contacts. The fragmentation process is complicated, and requires novel numerical modelling techniques. Modelling may need to be done on different scales, which may have to reach from very high resolution modeling to simplified contact models on larger scale.

Postdoctoral and PhD positions in Stochastic Computational Mechanics, Duke University

Submitted by jguilleminot_duke on

Several positions at the PhD and postdoctoral levels are available in the group of Prof. Guilleminot at Duke University. The ideal candidates should have a particular interest in conducting interdisciplinary research at the interface of computational mechanics, materials science and uncertainty quantification. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) stochastic modeling and computational frameworks for large-scale nonlinear materials and systems, statistical inverse problems and multiscale approaches.
