The Department of Engineering and Balliol College at Oxford University have a University Lectureship available in the area of Solid Mechanics and Materials Engineering.  We would  be particularly interested in receiving applications in the general area of composite and lightweight materials, including, polymer, metal, ceramic, biological and multifunctional composites, foams and lattice materials. A PhD scholarship is available at DTU Mechanical Engineering, Section for Solid Mechanics, in the field of diesel engine tribology. The scholarship focuses on computational modelling and experimental verification of fluid film and bearing parts of journal bearings in large two-stroke diesel engines. The department has well-established research activities in these fields and the present scholarship is partly funded by the EU-project Hercules-C. The research activities will be performed in close cooperation with MAN Diesel & Turbo SE located in Copenhagen.

 Ares Rosakis Sc.M.’80 Ph.D.’83 from Brown University was awarded the 2011 A. CermalEringen
Medal of the Society of Engineering Science (SES) in recognition of
hissustained contributions to dynamic fracture mechanics and methods to
determinestresses in thin film structures. Medalists for 2011 were
announced at therecent 48th Annual Technical Meeting of SES at
Northwestern University.

Faculty Position in Solid Mechanics 

The Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh anticipates an opening for a postdoctoral associate starting January 2012. The position’s primary area of research will focus on mechanics of micro-scale deformation processes and characterizing the thermomechanics of deformation at micrometer length-scales. Applicants with a strong background in computational solid mechanics and crystal plasticity will be preferred.
