Couple field Analyses in Abaqus

i need to know how Couple field analyses i.e (Electrical-thermal-strucutral) to be done or can be done in Abaqus 6.10

Abaqus, UMAT, Constitutive law, Powder

Dear all,

I have several questions about how to use existing constitutive law of material to code UMAT in Abaqus. I have carried out experiment for several powder materials, including metal, ceramic, polymer powders. The powder aggregate is compacted in a cylindrical die. After the compaction, relationships between axial stress and axial strain, radial stress and axial strain are obtained. The material under such condition is always treated as elastic plastic material.

tension/compression assymetry problem in Abaqus

I am trying to model a composite material with different tension and compression modulus (elastic analysis).  Does anyone know how to do it ??

Thanks for help.

Disparity in Simple Shear solution in ABAQUS

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

Dear All,
We tried to simulate simple shear using ABAQUS and compared it with the analytical solution. To our surprise, even though the equivalent stress and strain matched perfectly, the component stress and strain had a large deviation between the semi analytical and ABAQUS methods. The zero components in the analytical model were calculated to be non-zero in the results of ABAQUS. This paradox could not be understood clearly as whether it is a case of software deficiency or conceptual error. A COMPLETE ANALYSIS OF THE PROBLEM IS ATTACHED AS A REPORT.

Rerun input file with ABAQUS software from a certain time

There was a time i run my input file of 3D model with ABAQUS. It was supposed to take more than one day in order to complete analysis. But unfortunately my computer was turned off, then i had to rerun input file from beginning even running process was completed almost 85%. Is there anyone knows the way to rerun input file from the time it was ruptured?

periodic boundary conditions in ABAQUS 6.9-1

I have a problem with applying periodic boundary condition. I have used *EQUATION in constraints for opposite nodes and surfaces. But I still have some problem with that for sure I making some simple mistake. If anyone could look at my model and find problem. Abaqus version 6.9-1 .
Thanks a lot.

Slope of Contact force Vs time curve too steep.

Dear all,

I did a 3 pt bending impact simulation with an elasto plastic model. But the slope of contact force vs time curve is too steep at the beginning of the impact. One trivial way of reducing the slope is by reducing the young's modulus of elements in the vicinity of contact or the impactor. Also reducing the mass of the impactor and the impact velocity did not help in reducing the slope.

Is there any other non-trivial parameters that controls the slope of contact force vs time plot? Thanks ina dvance.

How to find sum of all nodal forces in a plane in Abaqus.

Hello all,

How to find sum of all nodal forces along a plane in abaqus. Thanks in advance.

Problems with gravity loads

Hello to all,

I`m carring out a simulation with abaqus of an underground storage tank. I modelled the tank using shell elements (conventional) and for the soil I used solid element. I want the stress on the top of the tank caused by the efect of the soil that is on the top.

The applied load is Gravity in the y-direction (-10 m/s2) to the whole model and I`m using abaqus/standard. I defined the contact between the tank and the soil.

The problem is that the job end saying "too many attemps for this increment". I used different increments but all of them with the same result.

What can I do or what am I missing ?

Thanks to all!

Brain drop simulation

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

I am doing research involving the finite element modeling of a human head namely Scalp, Skull, Brain & Duramater using Abaqus/CAE. I have finished modeling the parts, assigning the material properties, assembling and meshing the said model. I need to drop the whole assembly onto a 'floor'. What step should I choose. Also what interaction would I have to create so that the head would shear when it is dropped a distance less than 1 cm. Also bear in mind that it should not bounce.

 Thank you.

Modeling contact in ABAqus

i am working on modeling hertzian contact (general and standard conact in abaqus). i want to know how to model contact between surfaces of my assembly.  i modeled it but it gives me error saying that my regions in the model are not connected.

How should I go about? is contact modeling different than just constraining the surfaces ?

Constitutive model for the glass fiber reinforced-epoxy composite

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

Dear all,

I'm a researcher in the area of applied mechanics. Currently, I'm surveying articles on the constitutive and numerical modeling of fiber reinforced polymer composite. In particular, the fiber is a glass woven fabric. The matrix is the epoxy (thermoset which shrinkages when curing is completed). I want to know woks relevant to this kind of materials. I have found some "compressible hyperelastic model" which is for the epoxy only. Any comments or suggestions will be welcomed!

Coupled Euler-Lagrangian FEA to simulate fluid entering micro pores in Abaqus/Explicit

Hi all,

How to model a pipe which has pores in its internal surface, when the pipe is filled with water and closed at the both ends. Now when the pipe is impacted in the 3 point bending mode water will enter in side the pores and will cause some damping (resist bending).

Is there a modeling technique in Abaqus to do this type of analysis? We need to have the pores modeled as well as water entering inside the pores, however i want to do the simulation in the macro level (i want to simulate the full pipe). Thanks in advance.

Help about Modeling Impact in 3D composite element at low velocity

Crack modeling

Hi guys

I want learning about crack modeling in abaqus,

is there anyone to give me some example about crack modeling in abaqus?I think working on example is too faster to learn about modeling this type of events.

I'm waiting for your help

Modelling 2D instead of 3D in ABAQUS

I modeled a beam with a hole in ABAQUS in 2D and now I would like to stick one plate to the beam surface.

I can do it easily in 3D but actually I do not like to jump 3D because It will make analyses very hard to follow.

My question is that, Is there anyway to stick a the plate to beam in 2D in ABAQUS and avoid 3D?

Thank you,

abaqus, cel, coupled eulerian lagrangian, fluid flow

I am trying to model a tube which is filled with liquid that is being crushed.  I am using Coupled Eulerian Lagrangian to model the problem in abaqus, and there are a few distortions/errors in the model.  I am using symmetry to model only quarter of the model.  The liquid actually comes out from the sides of the tubes as the two attached pictures show.

Zoom in from the side. It shows the eulerian elements coming out of the tube
