cylinder with circumferential crack

Submitted by Suneel Kumar on

hi...i m doing 2nd year mtech...i m getting an error while solving circumferential crack in cylinder using ANSYS...while calculating stress intensity factor(SIF) it shows the error as "all crack face nodes do not have the same z value in the currently active coordinate system"...please anyone let me know how to deal this error??

Creation of CRACK in 3D GEOMETRY

Submitted by ravikumar04333 on

I am doing a project in FRACTURE MECHANICS.I completed doing the TASK in 2D geometries now i am facing a problem of creation of CRACK in 3D.. The most important thing is i need to execute in ANSYS only through GUI not through CODING.....PLZZZZZ....HELP ME....... I am attaching the MODEL also ... The model is a PRESSURE VESSEL..... Plz... help ...me......

PLEASE FIND THE ATTACHEMENTS BELOW OF MY MODELS........

Crack-tip field

These notes were initially written when I taught fracture mechanics in spring 2010.  The title of the notes was then "stress intensity factor".  In revising the notes for the class in 2014, I have changed the title of the notes to "crack-tip field".

You can access all notes for the course on fracture mechanics

Trouble with linear elastic theory of strength

Submitted by Zhigang Suo on

A body is subject to a load. What is the magnitude of the load that will cause the body to fracture? Let us begin with a body made of a glass, which deforms elastically by small strains. A procedure you have been taught before probably goes as follows. You first determine the maximum stress in the body. You then determine the strength of the material. The body is supposed to fracture when the maximum stress in the body reaches the strength of the material.
