3-D crack

XFEM crack under compression.

Submitted by Hidroxid on

Hi all,

I am doing crack modelling (XFEM) under moving compression and traction loading in Abaqus but I get warning regarding the crack under compression load as follows:

"THE LOADING CONDITION MIGHT MAKE MAIN CRACK UNDER COMPRESSION AT  NSET "X" THE CRACK PROPAGATION DIRECTION CANNOT BE PREDICTED. A VALUE OF ZERO IS PROVIDED FOR IT."

Anyone facing the same issue?

Kind regards,

Omid

How to extend crack in Mixed mode crack growth in Ansys ?

Submitted by saimohan35 on

Hi, I am doing project on mixed mode crack growth of semi elliptical crack in gas turbine components under cyclic loading. Ansys has capability for finding J,K using CINT command. But, In mixed mode crack growth, i dont know how to deal with nodes and how to create random crack with new node coordinates obtained from previous steps. If you have any ansys code related to creating crack and finding fracture parameters like K, J (mode 1 or mixed mode), Can you please give me the code.

Thanks

(I cant use any other software, only Ansys)

3-D crack propagation using 2-D dimensional finite element

Submitted by psubbu2000 on

Dear Friends,

I have developed a ser of 2-D finite elements for the problems of structural mechanics. These two dimensional elements are capable of accurately predicting three dimensional stress states using three diemnsional constitutive law. My doubt is: can these elements be used for the analysis of 3-D crack propagation using XFEM?.  The displacements chosen for these elements are simple.
