Solver for XFEM

Submitted by Arash Zamani on

In the FEM book by KJ Bathe and also in the fem book by G.Dhatt, it is said the direct solvers are generally more convenient than iterative solvers and new versions of them include reordering and efficient use of skyline method. In contrast there are iterative solvers with capability to directly manipulate sparse format of matrices. I am now working on XFEM coding with C++ and don't know what type of solver would be the best for XFEM. the conditioning issues of matrices obtained from XFEM would be a difficulty for the choice of preconditioners.

Hi all,

I am currently in my second year in Engineering school in France. I am doing research on 3D crack propagation in Rubber composites like tires.

And I wonder what is the best method to compute GI, GII and GIII. I have difficulties to choose between methods like EDI and VCCT for example.

I work in the finite strains case with static and dynamic. I also have difficulties to find papers on this subject with comparisons.

Can anyone please help me out with that

Thank You

Best Regards

I am trying to simulate the interaction of two rectangular elastic rigid blocks embeded closely in a medium having relatively low elastic constant under simple shear condition. The space between two blocks was taken to be very low elastic constant. In the final result, I found the two blocks have overlapped to each other after a high finite strain value which is not true in practical. The blocks are supposed to keep distance among them. Can anybody suggest me how to avoid the overlapping?

One_D groundwater flow equation by Meshfree methods

Submitted by Meenal on

I am a new Ph.D student. I want to solve 1-D transient flow equation with Dirichlet B.C.by meshfree method(Point collocation) with MQ-RBF (q=0.5).I've taken 11 nodes in a domain with 5 nodes in the support domain. How to take 5 nodes for 1st,2nd,10th and 11th node? How shape parameter α(alpha) is to be considered?

A challenge to Mr. Koenemann

Submitted by Chad Landis on

I am sure that several of you have followed Mr. Koenemann's posts with some interests.  For some it might be entertainment, and for others it might be like watching a car wreck.  In any case, several iMechanicians have attempted to convince Falk that his theories do not make sense.  We have all failed miserably at that task.  I am perhaps a bit slower than most, but it is clear to me that Mr. Koenemann will not be convinced by any physical or mathematical arguments.

Coupled Eulerian Lagrangian Analysis

Submitted by kunal_mecadcam on

Hi every one,

I am in my final stage of my dissertation, which is about slamming analysis of boat hulls with help of CEL - in Abaqus. I am currently working in how to validate the results which I got. Is there any way except experimental method to validate the stress - strain results?

Please help me...

 Regards
