The Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Systems Engineering invites applications at the Assistant Professor level from outstanding individuals with demonstrated expertise or research potential in Advanced Solid Mechanics applied to Extreme Environments. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to, loading of materials as a result of in-air or underwater blast or explosion, implosion of structures, impact mechanics, dynamic response of materials under extreme temperatures or pressures, saline or maritime conditions, and dynamic fracture fragmentation. Applicants are expected to have either a strong experimental background, or be expert in the computational modeling of solids under extreme loading conditions.

Applications are invited for PhD positions at the Algorithms in Medicine and Neuro-Technology Lab (AIMAN Lab) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA.

Research
The AIMAN Lab pursues fundamental breakthroughs in biomedical cyber-physical systems. The lab’s primary research focuses on application of mathematical modeling, controls and estimation theory, and machine learning in health information technology including decision support and automated care systems, with the intention of improving the quality of healthcare, as well as brain-computer interfaces to bring neuro-enhancements to the daily consumer.
