Postdoc/Research Fellow for computational mechanics of all solid state battery at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore

Submitted by mpeleehp on

I have an opening for a postdoc/research fellow for the modeling and simulations of all solid state batteries. The candidate should have the expertise for modeling and simulations using abaqus, and also familiar with the use of representative volumetirc elements. The opneing will be available from Jan 2023 for a duration of two years. Those who are interested can send the CV and relevant publications to Professor Heow pUeh LEE at mpeleehp [at] nus.edu.sg

Submitted by mpeleehp on

I am recruting two Postdocs/Research Fellows for research in sonic cage study. The candidates are required to have some experience in one of more of the following aspects:

1. acoustic simulations using comsol.

2. acousitc measurements using impedance tube.

3. data acquisition and analysis.

One of the openings will be available from July 2022 for a duration of three years. The second opening will be available from Jan 2023 for a duration of two years.

Postdoc position for a computational mechanician in the Computational Physics Group @ University of Michigan

Submitted by Krishna Garikipati on

The Computational Physics Group at the University of Michigan has an opening for a postdoctoral researcher in data-driven computational mechanics. This position can be available as early as July 1, 2022. Research in the Computational Physics Group is focused on developing data-driven, machine learning and some artificial intelligence approaches that interact with a range of computational methods for problems in materials physics, biophysics and in engineering more broadly.

SES Symposium 6.8 - Mechanics of Electrochemical Systems - Abstracts Due Monday May 16

Submitted by cdileo on

Dear Colleagues,

We are organizing a symposium at the 2022 SES Conference titled “Mechanics of Electrochemical Systems” (Symposium 6.8). The aim of this symposium is to bring together leading researchers on the electro-chemo-mechanics of next generation electrochemical systems. The symposium will cover experimental, theoretical, and numerical efforts related to electrochemical systems.

Planar equilibria of an elastic rod wrapped around a circular capstan

Submitted by Harmeet Singh on

We present a study on planar equilibria of a terminally loaded elastic rod wrapped around a rigid circular capstan. Both frictionless and frictional contact between the rod and the capstan are considered. We identify three cases of frictionless contact -- namely where the rod touches the capstan at one point, along a continuous arc, and at two points. We show that, in contrast to a fully flexible filament, an elastic rod of finite length wrapped around a capstan does not require friction to support unequal loads at its two ends.
