We are seeking an outstanding PhD candidate to join Mechanics in Biology and Medicine laboratory (MecBioMed.com) as part of a multidisciplinary collaborative project between Dr Emad Moeendarbary at the Department of Mechanical Engineering (University College London, UCL) and Dr Fernando Calvo at the Division of Cancer Biology (Institute of Cancer Research, London).
The Department of Earth and Environmental Engineering at Columbia University is launching a new Center for Advanced Materials for Energy and Environment. The Center emphasizes on both fundamental and applied research, in particular those related to technology development. We have multiple immediate openings for strongly motivated postdocs and PhD students.

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.msec.2018.01.007 The present review will introduce the basic concepts of silk-based electronics/optoelectronics including the latest technological advances on the use of silk fibroin in combination with other functional components, with an emphasis on improving the performance of next-generation silk-based materials. It also highlights the patterning of silk fibroin to produce micro/nano-scale features, as well as the functionalization of silk fibroin to impart antimicrobial (i.e. antibacterial) properties.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in an exciting project applying advanced fiber-based mechanics to understand the eye and prevent blindness. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team of engineers, clinicians and basic scientists at the Laboratory of Ocular Biomechanics of the University of Pittsburgh.
