Fundamentals of Fracture - Symposium at DPG2013

Dear colleagues,



We are organizing a symposium titled "Fundamentals of Fracture" at the 2013 Spring Meeting of the German Physical Society, taking place in Regensburg, Germany.



The aim of this international symposium is to bring together specialists from the fields of solid state physics, materials science, continuum mechanics, statistical physics and mathematics to discuss  the latest scientific developments related to fundamental mechanisms and physics of fracture.

This position will support research in biomechanics of the human brain in vivo and the mechanisms of traumatic brain injury in the context of sports-related concussion, using stereovision, image-analysis, and finite element modeling. Postdoctoral positions are currently available at MIT's Department of Materials Science and Engineering for individuals with a strong background in atomistic materials simulations (both classical potential or first principles). Projects will focus on properties of heterophase interfaces and amorphous materials. There are no citizenship requirements associated with these positions. A Ph.D. in Materials Science or related field completed within the past 5 years is required.
