Dear Colleagues,

The 20th European Conference on Fracture (www.ecf20.no) will be held at Trondheim, in Norway on 30 June - 4 July 2014. We are inviting abstracts in the areas of fracture and fatigue at all scales! The deadline for abstract submission is 4 October, 2013.

explicit analysis critical time-step Ansys

Submitted by tejas.ruparel on

hello,

I am trying to solve a simple cantilever beam (2D)  in ansys.

I wish to find out the critical time-step that can be used to explicitly solve a transient problem.

I started with modal analysis to determine the maximum natural frequency of the model. I then computed dt < 2/Wmax.

I use this dt with beta = 0.0 and gamma = 0.25 (Newmark parameters). However the solution is unstable.

I am including my apdl script with this post.

Basic papers and references in multiscale modeling and simulations

Submitted by chandrashekhar… on

Dear all,

Can you please suggest me some basic papers and references in multiscale modeling and simulation of materials. I am quite naive in this field. I have some exposure to solid mechanics and finite element techniques. I understand that I need to study molecular dynamic simulations also, where again I need advice for basic references.  I would be thankful for your help.

Thanks and regards,

Shekhar

PhD Position in Geometric Mechanics at Georgia Tech

Submitted by arash_yavari on

I am looking for a new Ph.D. student to work on discretization of nonlinear elasticity using geometric and topological ideas. Requirements for this position are a strong background in solid mechanics and some background in differential geometry and analysis. If interested please email me your CV.

My research

Submitted by Huadong Yong on

One year ago, I finished a paper on the instability in the polymer.

However, this paper was rejected, which means that this paper made too little

progress in this subject. Thus, we submitted the extended abstract to the conference and full paper in my blog.

A question on plasticity

Submitted by Huadong Yong on

Recently, I have a question on the plasticity. As the plastic materials undergo the loading and unloading process. we can find the energy dissipation from the stress and strain relation curve. Then, my question is that the energy dissipation is generated during the loading process or unloading process?Thank you very much.

Flow Induced Vibration in pipe flow

Submitted by kdevarajanmts on

Hi all

I am doing flow induced vibration analysis in pipe using ansys workbench. First i created fluent model and this output(solution) is couple with tranient structural  setup. FInally the pipe gets displaced becuase of fluid pressure. After that i want to calculate the modes. So it is possible to couple transient structural solution to modal setup? I have tried but i didnt know how to couple modal analysis and transiest structural analysis. Please help me regarding in this.
