Modelling primitives for Plane strain

Hi All,

I am very new to FEM process and ANSYS as well. 

I am trying to do a plane strain problem (2D) in ANSYS. 

My problem is  I dont know how to model primitives like sphere, cube, cylinder etc for 2D plane strain problem.

Like say can i model circle of 20mm radius for modeling sphere of 20mm radius???

Or can i model square of 50mm length for cube of 50mm.

May sound very dumb, but this is my geniune problem

国内高速公路和城市高架大量采用独柱墩设计,近年已发生多起倾覆坍塌事故。以笔者来看,设计规范需要改进,特别在倾覆核算的要求和引导上更全面并提高安全系数,设计不够严谨是另一原因。

从结构力学来看,两个问题:

1.许多的独柱墩设计为何不加盖梁?仅为美观(相对成本应较小)?如加盖梁发生的几起倾覆坍塌事故应该都可避免,全国范围天文数字的高速公路和城市高架加固改造资金可大量节省。。。。

2. 独柱墩(特别是单支点)的抗震性是如何考虑的,比如在京津唐地震带。。。。

how to get the ultimate load for concrete beam in ansys?

hi,

I made a model for concrete beam , and apply the load as load steps, and
then I made static non-linear analysis , but.....how con i define the
critical or the ultimate load that the concrete beam can stand before
collapse and how can I now the results for each load step? how can I
draw the (load - deflection)curve for the beam???

Finite difference method for elasticity

I am trying to solve elasticity equations by Finite Differnce Method using matlab. i am feeling some problems in applying external loading in form of distributed load. i have discritized the displacemet equation but unable to apply distributed laoded in form of deformation. Can some one help me how to apply stress boundry condition (neumann BC)?
