Postdoc in MD Simulations and Theory of NanoFriction (Erio Tosatti's Group, SISSA, Trieste)

Submitted by vanossi on

Funded through SNF SINERGIA Project ‘Understanding nanofriction and dissipation across phase transitions’, we open in SISSA a postdoctoral position (‘assegno di ricerca’) in the area centered around nanoscale tribology (friction, dissipation, adhesion, wear) involving modeling, theory, and molecular dynamics computer simulations of nanofrictional and nonlinear dissipation phenomena, especially in presence of continuous phase transitions.

[ABAQUS] Through-wall crack in a pipe

Submitted by P. F. C. on

Hi iMechanicians,

Currently modelling pipes, I am trying to calculate J-integral for through-wall crack. I do not use XFEM method since it does not work very well with elastic-plastic materials then I use the classic approach and I must sketch a precise mesh around the crack tip, which is perpendicular to the external (and internal too) surfaceof the pipe.

Ansys help - simple flow rule analysis

Submitted by koolraj09 on

Hi all.

I want to analyse a plate with a hole using ansys. But it has a material non-linearity. The stress strain law I want to use is σ = K εn

I want to know how it can be done. I've seen  and tried ansys but it has options like kinematic hardening etc... but how to incorporate this relation...please guys it's urgent!!

Thanks.

Postdoc Position in Chile

Submitted by Roger Bustamante on

The Superior Councils for Science and Technological Development of Chile will call for the FONDECYT Postdoctoral Grants Competition.

The available grants are for 2 or 3 years. The applicants must have obtained their Doctorate degrees between July 2009 and June 2012 (the exact dates will appear in the page of the agency later on).

energy dissipated in a cantilever beam

Submitted by negarkz on

Hi there ,

I am using modal analysis in abaqus to analize a cantilever beam that is subjected to an axial force. the material is elastic and Reighley damping is zero , but in order to define the parameters for analysis , there is a 5% damping for first mode. now , I want to obtain the dissipated energy of the beam through time. which energy output corresponds to the dissipated enrgy?

Is there a way to obtain the dissipated energy in elastic model with no damping at all?

Abaqus tire wear analysis

Submitted by Joe Elliott on

Hi all,

I am trying to complete the tire wear analysis example problem in the Abaqus user manual but I am having trouble with the input files. I have fetched them from the zip file using the fetch utility and I can import the first file (treadwear_axi.inp) in to Abaqus 6.9 but I am unsure how to continue as the other files do not appear to be complete.

Could someone please suggest to me the next steps to inport the remaining files and run the analysis.

Many Thanks

Joe Elliott
