Chair in Aerospace Structural Dynamics, University of Exeter

The University of Exeter is seeking a full Professor in the field of Aerospace Structural Dynamics.

The University is significantly expanding its capacity in Science and Engineering, with 275 million

GBP (approx 440M USD) capital spend on campus and 80M GBP (130M USD) on new academic staff.

As part of this expansion the University seeks to employ a new chair in Structural Dynamics particularly as applied to aerospace or related fields.

Dear colleagues,

I would like to bring to your attention the advanced course on Modeling of localized inelastic deformation that will be taught by Milan Jirasek in Prague, Czech Republic on 12-16 September 2011. More detailed information on the course is posted at http://mech.fsv.cvut.cz/~milan/course2011.html. We are looking forward to seeing you in Prague!

Analysis of the Rate-Dependent Coupled Thermo-Mechanical Response of Shape Memory Alloy Bars and Wires in Tension

Submitted by arash_yavari on

In this paper, the coupled thermo-mechanical response of shape memory alloy (SMA) bars and wires in tension is studied. It is shown that the accuracy of assuming adiabatic or isothermal conditions in the tensile response of SMA bars strongly depends on the size and the ambient condition in addition to the rate-dependency that has been known in the literature.

ICoBT 2011 - Dr Pat Campbell announced as speaker and deadline extended until 29 April

Submitted by Laure Ballu on

Dr Pat Campbell, Director of the Implant Retrieval Laboratory Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital, will be giving a Keynote Lecture at the ICoBT Imperial College London 18-21 September.

The topic of her keynote will be implant retrieval analysis as a tool to investigate and solve clinical problems.  Metal-on-metal hip premature failure and revision is the focus of intense interest and controversy at present.

quasi-static analysis

Submitted by amma on

Dear,

I would like to known if it is possible to do a quasi-static analysis (withoutinertial and dissipating effects) of the problem: elastic linear body subjectedto a moving load with variable amplitude. If yes, which time integrationmethods are currently used in these cases?

Thank you!

Best Regards
