Crack Analyze Using Analysis Based On API 579 Crack Like Flaws

Submitted by erlangga ibrahim on

I'm doing final project in the area for Crack Like Flaws based API 579.  I'm having trouble with level 3 Assessment Procedure and should using ANSYS to solve problem.  Is there anyone who have complete step by step procedure in Crack analysis using ANSYS based API 579 for level 3 ?

Promotion at random is better! Tenure makes you more "incompetent" -- Peter's principle proved by two italian scientists!

If you are upset about promotion system, look at what two italian friends proved recently, which was immediately popular before the paper publication, also because they proved random promotion is more efficient!

Post-Doc Scientist Position in Experimental Mechanics at Columbia University Starting in February 2010

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSITANT – HYBRID SOLAR PANEL The Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at Columbia University seeks applications for a position as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant. A Postdoctoral Research Assistant is a junior level research position and works under the supervision of a faculty member in the department.  As a postdoctoral research assistant the incumbent will work to further the research of the laboratory, and occasionally may be asked to supervise student projects related to the research and other topics within the scope of the group.

Automatic Stablization - RC Element Analysis

Submitted by looyong on

Hi all,

I am modeling a RC element subjected to stress and i am interested to determine the deflection of the element. I am using Abaqus Standard with static-general step.

It seems that I have instability issue and I used automatic stablization technique to stabilize the problem. I am currently using "Specified disipated energy fraction = 0.0002" with a default of 0.05 for max ratio of stabilization to strain energy.

What is the ideal tension stiffening data for RC Slab analysed with ABAQUS

Submitted by elmi on

Iam working on the analysis of simply supported RC Slab using ABAQUS with Concrete Damaged Plasticity. Anyone knows the ideal or best data or expressions or formulaes to relate the yield stress and strain (or displacement or GFI) for tension behavior in the tension stiffening profile.

Please let me knows. Thank you.

Iain Finnie passed away

Submitted by Mike Prime on

Iain Finnie passed away in December. At the time he was the James Fife Professor Emeritus U.C. Berkeley Dept. of Mechanical Engineering.

Iain had an amazing number of contributions spanning diverse area of mechanics. To the best of my recollection:

He published some great early work on the shear angle in metal cutting in 1953.

He published the first book on creep in 1959 with William Heller.

He published a (the?) pioneering paper on erosion in 1960.

Closing date for receipt of applications: 30 January 2010You will join a research project “Optimise blast resistance of novel composites made with fibre metal laminates (FMLs)” sponsored by the Leverhulme Trust. The project will be jointly supervised with Prof. Cantwell who is an expert on testing of novel composites. The project is to develop comprehensive finite element models capable of simulating various deformation and failure modes relating to composite features of FMLs subjected to extreme loading conditions.
